PS5 Pro finally arrives!More powerful, more expensive, and no optical drive
In the PS5 “tech demo” live broadcast, Sony finally announced the long-awaited PS5 Pro, priced at $699.99⁄119,980 yen, and will be officially released on November 7th! The Hong Kong and mainland China versions do not have pricing or release dates yet. Geoff Keighley, the host of TGA, revealed on Twitter that PS5 Pro pre-orders will start on September 26th.
Compared to PS5, PS5 Pro has a 45%!i(MISSING)ncrease in GPU power, stronger ray tracing, AI-driven, and PSSR functions.
Design and Accessories
In terms of design, the PS5 Pro is the same height as the standard PS5, and similar in width to the PS5 Slim. Due to the new external ventilation design, players will need to purchase a new console cover (release date not yet determined). The vertical stand must be purchased separately. PS5 Pro will be an optical drive-free console, with a separate optical drive available for purchase at $79.99 (approximately 570 yuan). The PS5 Pro also includes a DualSense wireless controller, a 2TB capacity solid-state drive, and Astro’s Playroom. All existing accessories, including PlayStation VR2 and DualSense Edge, will be compatible with Pro.
According to the PlayStation Blog, PS5 Pro has been designed to meet the needs of gamers and developers, with many seeking a smooth 60FPS frame rate and higher graphics quality. Several key performance features have been added to achieve this goal.
Upgraded GPU and Performance
The GPU has been upgraded to provide 67%!m(MISSING)ore computing units, with a 28%!i(MISSING)ncrease in memory speed. This results in a 45%!i(MISSING)ncrease in rendering speed, making for a smoother gaming experience.
Advanced Ray Tracing
Ray tracing capabilities have been upgraded to provide more dynamic lighting and reflections, achieving up to twice or even three times the speed of the current PS5 console.
AI-Driven Upgrades
PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) has been introduced, using machine learning-based technology to add more detail and provide higher image quality.
PS5 Pro will also support the latest Wi-Fi 7 technology and VRR and 8K gaming.
Games and Compatibility
At launch, there will be 40-50 games optimized for PS5 Pro, with enhancements including 4K, 60FPS, and additional details, new volume lighting, and effects. Some games will have 120FPS or 8K modes, such as GT7, which will have an 8K mode and an enhanced ray tracing effect in 4K mode. These games will be marked with the “PS5 Pro Enhanced” label, including popular titles from PlayStation Studios and third-party partners.
